Defining Upload and Download

Fire-Lite defines upload and download from the perspective of the fire alarm control panel, not the user of the PK software.

Upload – Transferring a program from the control panel to your PC for backup and/or editing.

Download – Copying a file from the PC to the control panel.

Remote Programming – Modem-to-modem communications over phone lines.

Local Programming (direct connect) – EIA-232 serial cable or USB cable between the PC and the control panel.

Using a remote Programming Utility to Program a Panel Locally

Local programming (direct connect) refers to a physical connection between the control panel and the programming computer, as in an EIA-232 connection. The only way to program a control panel locally with a remote programming package at the panel is to connect using two separate phone connections/extensions via modem-to-modem communication in the same room or building.

How to Install PK packages

When installing any Fire-Lite PK package, how do I respond to the screen prompt: "A file being copied is not newer than the file currently on your system. It is recommended that you keep your existing file"?

Follow these guidelines whenever installing upload/download software:

  • Before installing, close all programs including antivirus software and TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) utilities.
  • On some Microsoft® WindowsT versions, you may get the message that some of your files need to be updated and windows restarted before continuing. Click "OK" to update these files and reboot your computer. After Windows has restarted, you must run the PK setup again to continue the installation process.
  • If you are prompted with the Version Conflict message during installation: "A file being copied is older than the file currently on your system. It is recommended that you keep your existing file."
  • Examine the path of each file in conflict and follow these guidelines for answering the install question.
    a) If the path is the directory in which the program is to be installed, select "NO" to the question "Do you want to keep this file?"
    b) If path is NOT the directory in which the program will be installed, select "YES" to the question "Do you want to keep this file?"
  • Be sure to restart your computer after the installation completes.

PC Modem does not Work during an Upload/Download session

Due to the wide variations in modem standards, Fire-Lite cannot guarantee that your modem will be compatible with Fire-Lite's control panel communications protocol. If possible, please try a slower modem or setting the modem to 1200 baud. Retest for proper modem communications.
